Iraqi Refugee
Children Music Education Project
It's that time of the month again!
Thanks to you and others like you we can send
Iraqi people the message:
"NO, we haven't forgotten about you!
We are American citizens who have always believed
in the beauty of who the Iraqi people are!
Every month we send money to places
in the Middle East where Iraqi children
can learn about the beauty of their own
ancient culture and practice its musical forms
so that one day when they are parents they can hand down
their own ancient wisdom and remember that
there were US citizens who contributed to make this possible!
"We know that tragically destructive forces were released in your homeland and we want to honor who you are and help you preserve your ancient and beautiful culture!"
Iraqi Music Schools have now been set up by Musical Missions of Peace in the largest Iraqi refugee populations of Syria and Jordan so that Iraqi refugee children can carry forward the ancient microtonal music styles and the ancient poetic lyrics of their civilization.
The creation of these schools has been met by these Iraqi refugees with a huge welcome.
Having been driven out of their home country, millions of them are now living in Syria and Jordan, the only countries into which they have been allowed entrance in large numbers.
Many Iraqi musicians, highly skilled in these ancient indigenous styles, are taking this opportunity to begin the work of passing their art onto young Iraqi refugee children while earning precious livlihood for their families.
We have sources in Jordan and Syria for traditional instruments for maqam music such as ouds, violins, qanuns, nays, riqqs, and santours so that these Iraqi students can practice their musical arts.
We a small but efficient organization.
We actually get the job done!
